That’s What Friends Are For

So there I was, bottling my beer in my kitchen thinking,”Finally this is happening.” I hadn’t brewed beer in over 8 months. I felt like I was going to forget the basics; but just like a bike, I got back into it perfectly. Well, almost perfectly. I went to cap my first bottle and my capper broke apart. I was upset and started worrying about how I was going to save all of my beers without dumping my beer into a keg. I texted a couple of friends to see if they had a bottle capper I could borrow. One was able to help.

I went to his house, picked up the capper, and got back to business. The buddy I got the capper from is an old friend who (I like to believe) I turned on to homebrewing. The guy is a machine though. He got started and within a few months already had five or six beers under his belt. He eventually built his own kegerator with four taps and was making beautiful beers. I like to also believe that he surpassed me in the brewing knowledge. I love the guy for being there for me in a jam.

Homebrewing and enjoying craft beer seem to join us in many ways. We support one another and give assistance when needed. I love that. I will always be around to help out my fellow brewers with whatever I can. I will also be paying back my buddy with a nice refreshing beer someday. Maybe a nice local beer off the taps at our local Whole Foods for only $4 a pint. Sweet! I do have to say that Dionne Warwick had it right when she said, “That’s What Friends Are For.” They’re also for picking up the slack when you are “Living the Craft Beer Lifestyle”.
