Beer Review: Positive Contact

Beer Name: Positive Contact

Price: $14.99 for a 750 mL Champagne Bottle.

ABV: 9.00 %

Style: Witbier

Brewery: Dogfish Head Craft Brewery

Color: I carefully poured this brew into my Big Ass Beer Mug. The color was a bright, golden straw color. Nice one-inch, white, foamy head that dissipated slowly and left an artistic trace of lacing on the glass.

Aroma: The smell is quite wheaty. Hints of malts and apple cider.

Flavor: The taste hits you with some bready malts, cider characteristics and spice from the peppers.

Finish: Aftertaste and general mouthfeel is a bit bitter. I am assuming that that comes with the ciderish territory of this brew. Beer was in between medium and light bodied along medium carbonation.

Comments: If you know me, then you know I am a huge fan of REAL HipHop and REAL beer. This being said, Positive Contact was right up my alley. Put together by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and Dan the Automator’s (Deltron 3030) favorite ingredients, Positive Contact turned out to be a crazy treat for my palate. This was being sold in a six pack of 750 mL bottles that also came with an vinyl of Positive Contact remixes by Dan himself. I really got lucky finding this bottle solo at my local market. I was really surprised. But I saw it and immediately bought it, NO questions asked. When I finally got around to opening this, I was really thrown back. The smells were crazy in the sense that I couldn’t pinpoint anything at first. I backed away and took another sniff and there it was. Malts, wheat, cider, spices…BAM. After sniffing like a basset hound for a good 3 minutes, I took my first sip. Really smooth. Even with the high ABV and medium carbonation I really enjoyed drinking this. I really loved the spicey cider, malty taste. It was a bit chewy but still very, very good. I really wish I could have got the cilantro taste, but it just wasn’t there for me. As the temp dropped the ABV began to really hit me. Great brew all around. Smooth, tasty and easily enjoyable. I love HipHop and Beer together; it is a miraculous combination. Positive Contact is the perfect name for something as beautiful as this teaming of Brew and Music. Cheers to Deltron 3030 and Dogfish Head.
